Trash I picked up in the garden today:

  • Milky Way wrapper
  • Receipts
  • Used paper towels
  • Used napkins
  • McDonald’s paper bag
  • Approximately 5,000 cigarette butts
  • A blue and yellow Walk for Diabetes button
  • A dirty diaper.  No twosies in there, thank God.

Bee works hard for the honey.

So hard for it honey

Bee works hard for the honey

So you better treat ‘em right

Day 91 (July 30)

Saturday’s harvest.

From left to right: lavender, sage, ground cherries, chives (underneath), parsley (on top), grapes.

The three things in the center were from my plot. The rest was harvested from common areas.

Those grapes are ridiculously good. Especially when they’re warm from the sun.

What. Is. That?!

Well, it’s definitely not a plane…bird or bee?

Show-off.

Show-off.

Braving the heat wave last Sunday.
I’d wanted to record the crispy sound these petals made, but the cars on the street were too damn noisy.

Photos: On a Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn, a bunch of yellow flowers made a trip from the garden to the courthouse.

Whoa, hi there!

So while I was neglecting this Tumblr (don’t worry, my garden didn’t get the same treatment so no need to call vegetable services), a lot of you found me through Tumblr’s blog directory.

Awesome!

For the honor of landing in Tumblr’s Nature spotlight category and getting to reach you folks, I’d like to thank the members of my community garden, without whom I wouldn’t have any dirt to grow stuff in, my talented cast and crew of one, who has been there to water the plot when I couldn’t, and of course God and/or the weather, which has had been pretty good so far.

Will be back on track reporting from this downtown Brooklyn community garden: first-timer mistakes, milestones and minutiae.  In case you’re wondering, yes, I am practicing organic gardening, since organic methods are a requirement of my particular community garden.

Also, yes, the heat wave this weekend was KILLER.  Literally.  I lost a cucumber to it.

[Moment of silence.]

Get ready for some more garden porn headed your way soon. In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you.  Ask me anything, or plant an idea for a post. Or just say hi, will you?
